Hello. I'm Caryn Lindner. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in individual, couples and family therapy, and have maintained a private practice in Nassau County for over 20 years.
I have over 30 years experience as a psychotherapist, having treated clients with a broad spectrum of problems including anxiety, depression and marital discord. I have worked on an in-patient psychiatric unit as well as in many community mental health clinics serving a diverse client population.
My experience also includes providing support to families who are learning to cope with and better understand the emotional distress of their loved ones.
My approach is a personalized one tailored to each client's particular
needs. You may have difficulty dealing with your adult child who has
emotional problems, and need to gain a deeper understanding of what he/she
is feeling and how to respond in an appropriate manner. Or you may be very
unhappy in your marriage and feel "stuck" but are too afraid to do anything
about it. You may have self-esteem issues from the past which interfere with
your ability to even imagine yourself in a happy, fulfiilling relationship.
I try to capture your experience and put myself in your shoes. This way of
listening is different from speaking with a friend, whose own attitudes and
opinions influence how they listen and respond to you. This way of listening
leads to a deeper understanding of the problem, which is communicated back
to you, and as you feel more and more understood, you develop a sense of
trust which enables you to continue to explore and deepen your understanding
of the sources of the problem. Sometimes our past experiences interfere with
our ability to handle our present lives. I will help you to work through
these roadblocks and move ahead with your life. I work with individuals,
couples and families and help them to build on their strengths.
I have a Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University at Albany,
and I am a NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I'm also a graduate
of the New York Center For Psychoanalytic Training and have a Certificate in
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. I have many years of supervised practice.
I am a member of NASW and the New York State Society of Clinical Social
Workers.
